Travel is the movement of people between relatively distant geographical locations for any purpose and any duration, with or without any means of transport. Travel also includes relatively short stays between successive movements. Movements between locations requiring only a few minutes are not considered as travel. As an activity, "travel" also covers all the activities performed during a travel (movement).

Travel may be local, regional, national (domestic) or international. In some countries, non-local internal travel may require an internal passport, while international travel typically requires a passport and visa.

Travel can be for recreational purposes, for tourism, to visit people, for business or for commuting, and may occur for numerous other reasons, such as to obtain health care, migration, fleeing war, etc. Travel may occur by human-powered transport such as walking or bicycling, or with vehicles, such as airplanes, private transport, public transport, automobiles and trains.

A round trip is a particular type of travel whereby a person moves from his/her usual residence to one or several locations and returns. A trip can also be part of a round trip.

How long to travel to Mars from the point of view of those traveling?
Q. I've heard that it will take roughly 9 months to travel to Mars. But, time travels faster when farther away from large gravitational fields. How long will it take from the point of view of an astronaut making the trip? What will be the maximum difference in the speed of time from an astronaut on the journey from the speed of time at mission control on earth?

A. actually if you only considered time dilatation due to gravity, the clocks on earth would be slower than clocks on a spacecraft which is not in the gravity well of earth However in this case, time dilation due to speed will be present so the net effect will be that the clocks on the spacecraft will be slower than that on earth. Escape velocity from earth is 11.186 km/s. Lets be generous and say the space ship can go 10x that. Using the calculations from the website below, time dilatation factor would be 1.000696110642 times slower. If i calculate correctly, you lose 2 point something seconds a year

What travel companies are good during study abroad?
Q. I'm studying abroad in Italy this fall. I want to go to other countries while I am there, but a lot of the groups I've been finding for "cheap student travel" seem questionable. Anyone have any good travel companies that were reliable, safe, and affordable? By safe and reliable, I mean I won't be scammed.

A. The best way is use kayak to search for flights and hotels and then book directly with the airline or hotel. Most online travel sites cannot be trusted since once they charge your credit card you are on your own. Check the links below for scary information

How can I buy travel vouchers to give as a gift?
Q. I would like to buy travel vouchers to give as a gift. They would be for travel originating in the UK - most likely to European destinations. Ideally they could be redeamed online and could be spent on both air travel and hotels. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks. I want to get the vouchers from a UK based company or website.

A. You can buy airline vouchers directly from the airline - most offer them on their website. Virgin Atlantic offers "Virgin Vouchers" in denominations of 5, 10, 20 and 50. They're sent out in a stylish wallet along with a list of all the places where they can be used. Here's the website w/ more info and where the vouchers can be used:
