A. Most green vegetables are ruffage, which is harder to digest, therefor causing the body to work harder to digest it, burning more calories. So the answer to your question is yes. It actually burns more calories to digest then the celery contains. But, not necessarily if you eat it with something else, like peanut butter, or ranch dressing...

A. There's actually argument as to whether celery is a negative calorie food or not. Some people say it takes more energy to digest it than its worth, some say that it doesn't. I haven't seen a difinitive scientific study on the matter, so personally, I'm not sure. Either way, you are consuming or burning a pretty negligible amount of calories. Caloriecount.about.com says that there is one calorie in the average celery stick, or 19 calories in a cup of chopped celery. However, some scientists say that foods high in fiber, such as celery, might actually have less calories than that. Personally, I count each stick of celery as one calorie even though I accept the possibility that they actually are negative calorie foods, because I'd rather be… [cont.]

How many calories are burned by digesting celery?
Q. I have always heard that a person burns more calories by digesting celery than there are actually in the celery itself.
Asked by julian - Fri Jun 4 22:38:40 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The answer is very little. I'm afraid it is a myth. Celery contains virtually no calories and so you can eat as much as you like and not put on weight. However it costs fewer calories to digest than it contains.

A. you don't consume vegetables to fight fat you eat them for the nutrients that they provide. protein causes the greatest thermogenic effect then carbs then fats. trying to eat so called "negative calorie foods" is a complete waste of time when it comes to fat loss. if you want to use the diet to decrease body fat or manage the weight you need to follow a high protein diet with plenty of high fiber carbs, fruits, veggies and healthy fats.

Is it true that when you eat celery you burn more calories than you consume?
Q. If this is the case, wouldn't eating celery just make you even hungrier? What is the point? Hans- eating anything burns calories. Anything you do burns calories. What I am saying is a stick of celery say has x amount of calories and it takes you y amount of calories to eat and y > x.
Asked by lisa - Thu Jun 26 12:02:37 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Celery has calories, and calories are calories. There is no evidence that eating celery burns calories - although the theory sounds credible. :) It doesn't make you hungrier, because it's full of fiber and water, but not many other nutrients. Notice that it's mostly pale green? The paler the color of a food, the less nutritiously dense it is. So eventually your body would crave the nutrients it needs in the form of carbs and protein. If you ate nothing but celery, yes, you'd be very hungry. :)

A. Here is a list of negative calorie foods. I wish it meant that the foods have negative calories ;-) lol. But when you eat these foods raw or in some cases slightly cooked with nothing on them your body burns more calories digesting and processing them than what is in the actual food itself. For a healthy weight loss and a little boost add some of these foods to your diet each day. Most are full of nutrients and won't weigh you down. Fruits: apple cranberries grapefruit lemon mango orange pineapple raspberries strawberries tangerine Vegetables: asparagus beet broccoli cabbage (green) carrot cauliflower celery Chile peppers (hot) cucumber dandelion endive garden cress garlic green beans lettuce onion papaya … [cont.]

A. Check Wikipedia for a list of negative-calorie foods. Remember, these foods become positive calorie foods when buttered, fried and/or dipped in ranch dressing! They also do not come anywhere near providing a well-balanced diet, so ensure that you are getting all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients that you need from other sources as well.

A. Not only celery but any raw vege works the same and you can also make a vege soup ...start with a can of crushed tomatoes and add all the low starch veges then cut up some cabbage and cover with enough water to just cover all the veges...add salt and pepper to your taste and eat it whenever you get hungry or have a bowl right before dinner and you will eat a lot less at dinner. I lost a lot of weight using this soup.I used carrots celery some onion broccoli zucchini short cut green beans asparagus if it was on sale ...but no corn or peas or beans nothing starchy. If you want to make a meal out of it add cut up cooked chicken and about a cup of pasta or rice to the whole ketttle. It also freezes well so make a big pot and freeze half in… [cont.]

Q. What about chewing sugar free gum? How many calories does one burn just from chewing? The gum I am chewing right now only has 5 calories per 2 pieces; I'm only chewing one. If I chew it for an hour will I have burned off the calories I took in from it? I'm not going crazy, I'm just really curious. LOL If anything I'm gaining weight from the muscle from e x e r c i s i n g!!! :D

A. The physical act of chewing celery burns about as many calories as watching paint dry. The process of digesting the celery is where the calories are used. The cellulose in celery is difficult to digest and requires more calories during digestion. In that regard we burn more calories than we can extract from the celery. Seeing the gum has only 5 calories and you chew it for an hour, then you probably break even on that.

Asked by beccalove14 - Mon Apr 2 21:18:00 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You are burning calories all the time. Your body is spending energy doing internal things, like heating the body and digesting. While eatting celery, your body is lifting the fork, chewing, swallowing and digesting. However, the celery only has just a few calories so therefore the calories you are spending are far less than the calories you are adding in. So at that moment you are burning calories. Just like chewing gum. However, you aren't burning fat by eatting celery--just the calories for the day.
