Q. im on ebay bidding for a lawn tractor, then these robot computers things like raise my bid, thne i add 5 bucks and it still raises me again, until i met the deadline, but wondering how to people do these computer robot things on ebay to automatically bid???

A. Actually, it has nothing to do with that. The person you are bidding against had placed a bid significantly higher than what was shown. It is called proxy bidding. It will put his bid to whatever is needed to win the bidding at the moment. You then come in and start bidding. It shows that this other person has outbid you. It will continue to do so until you over bid them. Example: Items bidding starts at $5. Someone proxy bids $45. It shows that they're at $5 because that's the highest they need to win the auction currently. You come in and bid $10. It now shows that they've bid $11 as it's still less than $45, but enough to keep winning. You add another $10, now it shows they're at $22. Once you bid $46, then it will show… [cont.]

How does ebay shipping for a video game work?
Q. On ebay, some sellers say that when you buy a video game, you pay FLAT shipping for the first item, then shipping is free for additional items you buy. Does Ebay automatically calculate it so that you only pay for shipping once? Thanks

A. "Does Ebay automatically calculate it so that you only pay for shipping once?" No, the individual seller will send a combined invoice for all the items together.

A. eBays fees are dependent on two things. Listing costs and commission. There are established charges for an eBay listing. The more complex the listing, the more the cost. If you have a simple listing, text, no pictures, no reserve, no starting bid, that would be the cheapest. But add pictures, put in a background, pay for premium listing, add a reserve, put the starting bid at something more then minimal amount, and that costs more. As you build your listing, eBay will keep a running total of what it will cost to list your item, and you have the option to review that cost, and change your listing appropriately before you incur any charges. A. Adrian C: The two most useful links to see 'WHAT'S HOT' on ebay are: 1. This site lists all the 'hot categories' of items that are currently being sold. 2. This is a PDF file/list of all their hot selling items; Review it and you should be able to determine what product(s) are hot, that you can sell, as well as see what products are 'cold' and are not sellling as much...thus knowing what to stay away from. Hope this helps? RME

For eBay purchases, what is the fastest way to pay if I have no more money in my Paypal account?
Q. I've been purchasing a lot on eBay recently, and I have no more funds on PayPal. Fund transfers from bank accounts take 3-5 business days, but I want to pay for the items now so they can be shipped sooner. What is the fastest payment option that takes less than 3-5 days? Also, if I withdraw from my PayPal account money that I don't have, will I be charged a fee, or will I just owe PayPal?

A. Hi, Credit card is an option & so is instant transfer from a bank account (backed up by the credit card if the ach transaction fails). Withdrawing to a bank account doesn't have a charge from PayPal...but you should check with your bank to see if they charge for incoming ACH transfers (most do not).

How much should I charged on ebay for shipping and handling?
Q. This is my first time that I am selling on ebay.I am selling four little girls used dresses on ebay. The starting bid is 99cents. The box weight is 2-3 pounds and I am planning to send item normal delivery. My fee on ebay to sell item is $3.10, my box cost $1.75. How much should I charged for shipping and handling?

A. That is the problem with starting your auction at .99. You should never open for less than what you would comfortably accept for the item. Unless you're 100% going to get massive bidding, you might very well end at .99--and if you don't have a huge store that makes up for it with cross sales, you're going to lose money. You aren't supposed to make up the eBay fees in the S&H. S=actual postage cost. You must know the weight of the package before listing your item--guess and you can come out way behind. H=handling fees, but some things that you can ethically cover are: 1. Cost of packing materials (1.75 is WAY too much for a box, btw) If you are sending priority, your boxes & envelopes are free. Of course your paper & packing peanuts… [cont.]

Q. Is it a place for the sellers to send items to and people purchase online, or do people sell it from their own home. Its my 1st time buying something off ebay, and worried i'll be scammed. What if the sellers keep the items while you purchase it? Is there anyway they can scam?

A. Sellers usually sell things from their own home and some drop-ship from other companies. Sign up for PayPal and use it to pay for your item. They have buyer protection. I have had over 800 transactions on ebay and haven't been scammed once.

How much percentage do eBay take when you sell things on there?
Q. How much percentage do eBay take when you sell things on there? For example if selling $6,000.00 item how much will eBay take when u sold that item?
Asked by snapple - Sun Apr 25 17:32:31 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It really depends on how you list the item. If you list it as a 'buy it now' the percentages are based on what category your item falls into. If you list it as an auction the final value fee is 9% up to $50.00. The best thing to do would be to read on ebay's website. I am including a link to selling fees: Hope this helps. You need to check out all the fees, insertion, pictures, featured and all that also.

What are the best alternative online marketplaces to ebay?
Q. Or do they effectively have a monopoly? I now find that ebay's seller fees cut too far into my margins on low value items. To rub salt in my wounds, they charge again for accepting payment by Paypal (part of the same company). Ebay say this is to protect members from being spammed - Any fool can see it is really about protecting themselves from sales off ebay - leaving sellers with no means of contacting their potential customer. A. Hi Pete! Couple of ideas: 1) Try amazon.com - works similar to eBay's 'buy it now' concept. However they too charge fees that some may find exorbitant. 2) Open your OWN web store. Not as complicated as it sounds; you'll need a hosting company that provides free shopping cart / catalogue software. You could choose to get set up with a merchant account for credit cards, or just take payment by money order. That way, you're in control! Check out vervehosting.com and colinstone.com for some ideas. You'll never know until you try! Kind regards.

Is ebay becomming way to expensie for peope to run ebay businesses?
Q. Ebay seems to continue to raise fees and charge fees for things they didn't in the past. They own paypal as well and now rape you on paypal charges. I know in the past some people ran ebay businesses I'm wondering if it's getting harder to make money or even possible to make money anymore?

A. Only if your business model is unsustainable. Try setting up your own website and see how much that costs. See how much a provider charges you for processing credit card payments. PayPal's fees are reasonable for the service they provide. You cover your overhead by charging more for your item. If charging more for your item means no one will buy it, then your business model is unsustainable.

Q. I don't have a credit card, and my mom will NOT use hers online, ever, end of story. But There's lots of things on ebay for great prices, plus I'd like to sell too. Is this at all possible? I've seen ebay gift cards at the store, but I don't think you can set up your account without using a credit card. Any ideas?

How to get ebay reputations at the beginning?
Q. Since, I haven't sell anything I have no feedback. I want to enter a market. I probably will have only one or two competitor so since it's a monopoly I want to break it. However customers pay attention to sellers feedback and I don't have. So should I try to enter market or start with basic. But I want to focus on this particular market. Btw, do you have any tips and advices for ebay trading?

A. What are you talking about? It'd really help if you told us. Anyway, you can buy cheap things from China some times as low as $4. Be careful, because many people have done this only to scam people on a string of high end auctions so buyers may be skeptical. Be sure to take pictures, lots of them from different angles and such.

What are guaranteed ebay coupon codes that work?
Q. I want to buy a purse on ebay, but the price is a little steep. I noticed that there was a place to write in coupon codes after I click "buy it now", but I couldn't find any that work.

A. Coupon codes are everywhere on the net. You can do a search for eBay coupon codes and u'll get a list of sites that collect these codes to share with other people. Not all of these codes stay valid. Some have expired or are valid for everyone that uses them. Actually, codes on eBay are preselected for different groups of members. Some will receive one kind of FALL code while some will receive one kind of XMAS code while others cld receive both. And they cld only be used once. These are randomly sent, but very seasonal. You'll receive the codes in your eBay messages and in an email with the details. Those are guaranteed ones. To check if the code works, call PayPal (since PayPal is usually a requirement for the coupon). PayPal also… [cont.]
