Can I put a plunge router in a router table?
Q. I'm very new to routers and I'm not sure of the difference between a plunge router, a stationary router, and a table router. It think a plunge router is able to move up and down while a stationary router stays level and a table router doesn't move but instead the wood itself is moved. Am I right and can a plunge router be made into a stationary router with just an accessory? In the end I need to know if a plunge router can be put into a router table. Thanks.

A. The difference between a plunge router and a stationary router is that to use the router by hand, you can set the depth of cut by turning down the ruler knob on the side of the router to the depth that you need . If you take off the base of the router you can mount your router to a table, either the type you would buy at the tool outlet or you can make a table yourself from timber , consisting of four sides and a hinged top,cut the diameter of the hole big enough for your largest cutter to pass through you can use a straight edge clamped on the table for a guide or use it free hand . buy yourself a book on how to use your router and you can have loads of fun whilst making great things for the home and for the kids

Q. I see a lot of different ways to setup a wireless router as a wireless access point (to another router). I have a U-Verse router and a netgear wireless router, is there anyway I can use the netgear router to pickup the wireless signal from the U-verse, and let me connect to the netgear router to receive internet? LilJon, I apprieciate your help, but you obviously have no idea what your talking about. The other response guy, I will check that out.

A. well i wouldn't really attempt that if i were u. as u could completely wipe out the u verse router. but u could connect them with a ethernet cable and connect the one from the uverse router into the computer. try doing that and if u need help im always free.

How do I use my wired router as a wireless router?
Q. I just bought a new tv. The router that we have for our computers is a router that actually is directly connected to each computer via ethernet cable. Is there a way to connect to the internet wirelessly with my tv without getting a new router? I do not want a wireless router for the other computers.
Asked by John - Mon Nov 16 21:32:19 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Unless the TV has Internet Protocol capability, you can't connect it to any router, wireless or wired. Internet protocol is not the same as over-the-air TV reception. If it does (these days, I wouldn't predict what is or isn't possible) have wireless capability, check the router's description. Most routers these days have both wired and wireless capability. Hope that helps.

What is a router and does it work with my computer?
Q. I am currently using a computer, a normal windows XP computer. The only connection my computer has is a normal broadband connection. So is it compatible with a router? And in simple English, please tell me how does a router work and if a router works with my computer/type of connection?
Asked by Maria - Sat Jun 16 03:25:18 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes your computer is compatible with a router. There are routers and wirless routers for home use. Both are the same concept. A router job is to share internet connection to other computers or laptops or devices that have network capablities. A router does not provide internet but distributes your main broadbad connection to other devices. If you get a wireless router which would be better, could provide internet access to a laptop with having to run a phyiscal cable to your main broadband line. And of course with either router you can share printers and folders.

A. Most ISP (cable) are easy to set up, the installation CD is usually used on the PC that can get online through the modem - pop it in and folloe instructions or you can try the following: 1.) Power off both modem and router. 2.) Plug the ethernet cable from your modem to the internet port of the router and one computer to one of the 4 ports (preferably the PC that's already wired to the modem using an ethernet cable). 3.)Power up modem, wait for the light to stabilize (or when "online" light is lit) - this indicates your modem has established communication to your ISP. 4.)Power up your router. Check if the wired PC is online no need for the installation CD. Your wireless laptop should be able to detect and connect to your wireless network, [cont.]

How to use router if need to operate wired desktop, wireless laptop and wifi phone on mac bound wan connection?
Q. I submitted my linksys router mac address (found on the back of router) to my wan operator (who provides mac based connection) but my wireless laptop and wifi phone did not connect. How to use router to connect wired desktop, wireless laptop and wifi phone using mac bound wan connection?
Asked by FAISAL A - Tue Aug 11 12:07:24 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Ok, so you gave them your mac. How long ago? Sometimes it takes up to 24 hours to go through. You have your ethernet from the Internet going into the WAN or internet port on your router and your wired computer connected into the LAN on the router. Does that computer get online? If so it may be an issue with wireless settings on the computer. Either way power down the router, wait 30 seconds and power it back on. restart all computers. Can you connect to any now? If wired won't go on, call your ISP again. If it does but you cant connect wirelessly, update again and I will expand my answer.

Does a router halve the signal or does the bandwidth stay the same on all ends?
Q. Im planning on purchasing a router because of new computers and a ps3 and i was just wondering whether a router splits the signal with my excruciatingly slow 256 kbps bandwidth speed on both ends or does it halve it. So if i had two computers using the internet at the same time would i have 256 kbps on both computers or roughly 128 kbps on each?
Asked by Jared P - Fri Jan 22 05:01:27 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A router does not halve or split the bandwidth. The bandwidth is still exactly the same. The two computers will not have "roughly 128 kbps on each". They will each have access to the 256 kbps connection. How that bandwidth will split when both computers try to use it at the same time is not up to the router or the computers. This is a very common misconception. Your 256 kbps bandwidth is how much data can arrive over your link to you. When the router gets a chunk of data, it figures out which computer it goes to, and sends it to that computer. It has no choices over bandwidth allocation, it can only forward on what it gets from your service provider. So if you get fairness or don't, it has nothing to do with anything *your* router does.… [cont.]

Can I used a wireless router to connect to another wireless router in my house?
Q. My dad just replaced our wireless router at home cause it was getting old. Now it's laying around, with absolutely no use. But i'd like to play xbox live in my room, which is on the other side of my house, without buying a wireless game adapter for it. Can I use my old router to connect to my current one? I basically want to use it as a wireless receiver, but I assume it was made to send the connection, not to receive it. Can I still use it for this purpose?

A. Your best option is a Linksys wireless router. You don't need any expensive wireless adapters either you can just get 3 ethernet cords and it will also give you wifi in case you have a ipod touch/iphone. Also they have great connection for 360 online play. : )

How can I use another wireless router to connect my printer wirelessly to my network?
Q. I have an existing wireless network in my home. I also have an old linksys WRT54GS router. I want to use that router to connect my HP 2570 to that wireless network so I can print wirelessly. I know how to set up the printer, but I need help configuring the router and where to get the software needed.
Asked by Jay - Mon Jul 6 09:18:42 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is a couple of ways you can do this. You can go the easy but expensive route by purchasing a print server for the printer. These go from $30.00 up to $100.00, depending on the model. A cheap but decent printer server offered by Dlink; You can also connect the printer to the router that is already on the network, and share it out that way. Lastly, you can use that existing router as a bridge, by disabling the dhcp scope on it and setting it up for bridge mode. Then you could get a DCHP range from the existing router sent to the bridge and from there to the printer. Good Luck Keith D Mitchell, Server Engineer, Hostmysite.com

What brand of router is best to use when connecting an Xbox360 to your home network?
Q. I've got a Linksys BEFSR41 router right now, and I'm having trouble getting my 360 to sync with my home network. I've tried enabling DHCP and all the normal things the help site says. A. Hi John w; The N standard is the newest and is backwards compatable with the other standards. The N standard will give you the fastest transfer rate, so it is in your best interest to get a N router. Enjoy the movies!

How do you hook up a router to the computer?
Q. What comes with a router? What is the difference between a wireless router and regular router?
Asked by Danny Holmes - Tue May 5 22:06:38 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Ok the difference between a wireless router and a a normal router is that the wireless router allows you to connect wirelessly... if you are not going to use any wireless devices it is better to get a normal one... but yet again it is always good to have a wireless one, just in case. If you are planning on purchasing one, I recommend you the 2Wire gateway router, it is a router and a modem at the same time, thus making the connection very easy and simple. If you are going to get a router by itself, then it is going to be somewhat difficult to connect it. First you need to find out the type of modem that you have, in order to know if we are going to have to put it on bridge mode or not. Bridge modem is basically a process that lets the… [cont.]
